Golden State Warriors: Profile, Achievements, Early Career and NBA Career

Check-out the Golden State Warriors’ rich history, their impressive NBA titles, legendary players, passionate fans, and their significant influence on basketball.

Based in San Francisco, the Golden State Warriors are a professional basketball team in the United States. The Warriors are a part of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference and play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Originally established in Philadelphia in 1946, the Warriors relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962 and adopted the name of the city. In 1971, they adopted the geographic designation Golden State. The Chase Center is the venue for the team’s home games.

The Basketball Association of America (BAA) was founded in 1947, and the Warriors—led by the future Hall of Famers Paul Arizin, Tom Gola, and Neil Johnston—won the title once more in 1956. The team had the worst record in the NBA (17–63) at the end of the 1964–65 season following the trade of star Wilt Chamberlain in January 1965. Their rebuilding phase was short lived, largely because Rick Barry was selected by the Warriors four months after the trade. Considered one of the biggest upsets in NBA history, the Warriors won their third championship in 1975 because of the play of superstars Barry and Jamaal Wilkes.

Over the course of its existence, the Warriors have used a number of different logos and uniform designs; the most recent being in 2010. On June 12, 2019, the Warriors did, however, reveal a few minor changes to their main logo, which included a new bespoke font. On September 17, 2019, the team then introduced six new jersey designs utilising the redesigned logo.

  • The Warriors honoured their 47 seasons in Oakland overall and the “We Believe” era with a “City” uniform for the 2020–21 campaign. It keeps the previous logo’s colour scheme and the “Oakland” location designation in its letters.
  • The Warriors updated their 1961–62 road outfit with the Warriors Origins jersey for the 2021–22 campaign. Their final campaign in Philadelphia was in 1961–62, the same season when Wilt Chamberlain recorded a career-high 100 points in a single contest. The 75th anniversary of the team is also honoured on the jersey.
