2024 WNBA Draft Lottery Set for December 10: Teams and Odds Revealed
Get insights into the upcoming 2024 WNBA Draft Lottery, including teams, odds, and potential top picks like Caitlin Clark, set against the backdrop of an exciting Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase event.
The WNBA announced that the highly anticipated 2024 draft lottery will occur on December 10th. A special 30-minute draft lottery event is scheduled to air at 4:30 p.m. ET, positioned between the concluding matches of the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase tripleheader that day. The official draft is slated for April 15th.
Teams partaking in the upcoming lottery—Indiana Fever, Los Angeles Sparks, Phoenix Mercury, and Seattle Storm—missed the 2023 WNBA playoffs, qualifying them for the chance to secure favorable draft positions.
Lottery odds are determined by combining the records of the past two WNBA regular seasons (2022 and 2023). The Indiana Fever, with a cumulative record of 18-58, hold the most opportunities to secure the top pick with 442 chances out of 1,000 and are guaranteed a minimum of the third pick. In the previous draft, Indiana held the No. 1 selection and chose Aliyah Boston from South Carolina, who later earned the Rookie of the Year title.
Phoenix, accumulating a combined 24-52 record over the past two seasons, possesses 276 chances out of 1,000 for the top pick. Los Angeles (30-46) follows with 178 chances, while Seattle (33-43) holds 104.

During the lottery drawing, numbered balls 1-14 are placed in a lottery machine, mixed, and four balls are drawn to determine a four-digit combination. The team assigned that combination will receive the No. 1 pick. The process is repeated for the subsequent picks.
The draft order for the rest of the first round, as well as the following rounds, will be based on the inverse order of the teams’ 2023 regular-season records exclusively.
In addition, a recent mock draft projects Iowa Hawkeyes’ guard Caitlin Clark as the potential No. 1 pick. However, players like Clark have the option to return for a fifth college season in 2024-2025 due to the COVID-19 waiver, allowing them to declare for the draft after completing this season.
The Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase tripleheader in Uncasville, Connecticut, on December 10th will precede the draft lottery, featuring UCLA vs. Florida State, Utah vs. South Carolina, and North Carolina vs. UConn. The lottery event will air between the second and third games.
