Why In-Game Flopping Penalty Was Made Permanent By The NBA Board of Governors

In this article, we mention why the in-game flopping penalty was made permanent by the NBA board of governors

Do you recall the rule they experimented with the previous season, wherein players were given a technical foul for failing to make adequate contact to draw a foul? Well it seems to have worked out because they are making it a permanent part of the game! Now, if a ref catches a player flopping that player gets a technical foul but not the kind that can get you kicked out. The other team also gets a free throw that any player on the court can take. So flopping could hurt your team by giving the other side a free point!

Emirates NBA Cup Tiebreakers Get an Overtime Overhaul

The NBA also made some changes to how they decide winners in the Emirates NBA Cup, their mid-season tournament. Previously, points scored in overtime games counted towards a team’s overall score and the point difference between points scored and points allowed. This year they are changing things up. Points scored in overtime will not affect these tiebreakers anymore. This means close games that go into extra minutes will not unfairly impact a team’s standing in the tournament.

A group of important people in the NBA suggested both of these changes, including players, coaches, referees, and team executives. They are all hoping these tweaks will make the game fairer and more exciting for everyone involved.
