Boston Celtics faced a significant setback as they lost to Detroit Pistons by 117-92 on 26 February 2025, but despite this loss, they achieved a notable milestone that will be remembered throughout history.

This loss also marked the end of the Celtics’ six-game winning streak as they have won 10 out of 11 last games, showing great form before facing the Pistons. This strong form definitely helped them create history in yesterday’s game as they logged a record-breaking shooting performance in one of the quarters.

They made 11 3-pointers on 16 attempts in the second quarter and were just one 3-pointer away from making a new NBA record however, they did etch their names to history as this 3-pointer ratio to total points was unique.

33 points came from the 3-pointers out of 35 points they made, and it was the first time in NBA history that a team scored more than 90% of its points from 3-points alone. This highlights the team’s capability to excel in short bursts even if it wasn’t enough to win the game.

Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 27 points while Derrick White and Payton Pritchard contributed 18 points each. All three of them combined for an impressive shooting display in the first half going from 14 to 22 and 11 of 15 on 3-pointers. The Celtics were then outrebounded by the Pistons by 49-33, which impacted their ability to control the game.

Their A-game was specifically sidelined because of the absence of Jaylen Brown, who could not play due to a thigh injury. Despite their strong shooting in the first half, they could not maintain the momentum in the second half, leading to their loss, which was also the time they had lost to the Pistons since 16 February 2022.
